Shawn Mendes – Album review

Hey everyone, long time no see!

Life has been HECTIC! But in 3 weeks time, it should all go back to normal with regular blog posts. In the mean time, I’m going to do something I haven’t done before… an album review! There are currently two albums that I am OBSESSED with at the moment, one is Shawn Mendes’ new album, and the other one? You’ll have to wait a few days to find out…

So, if you don’t know, our boy Shawn released his new album at the beginning of this week. I have been waiting so so long to hear it, and knowing how good ‘in my blood’, ‘lost in Japan’, and ‘Youth’ sound, I was more than excited to listen and had high hopes!

The artwork is pretty contemporary and abstract, and slightly strange to look at… but hey, let’s not judge an album by its cover!

The track-list is made up of 14 songs, featuring two collaborations (Julia Michaels and Khalid). Now, obvs I’m not going to go through every single song in detail, or this would end up being the length of a novel! So here are my favourite songs of the track:

  • Nervous

This song has such a catchy beat! It does start off quite monotonous, but it works so well! It gives me all of the mysterious vibes. Then the chorus kicks in, and we’ve got some falsetto mixed in with some harmonising. Just amazing to be honest.

  • Like to be you – ft. Julia Michaels

The harmonising in this song. I can not even explain. Just please go and listen to it yourself. It’s such a soothing duet, and they both complement each others sound perfectly!

  • Queen

Ahhhh the sass! This song is just dripping in pure sass and I LOVE IT. This is the kind of song you sing in your bedroom, with a hairbrush as a mic, acting like you’re Beyoncé and ruling the world. (Personal experience guys…).

  • When you’re ready

If I could marry a song, it would be this. It’s so stunningly simple, and I cannot stop listening to it. It is the perfect way to close the album.

This is quite possibly his best album yet, there is a perfect balance of upbeat tunes and sweet love songs.  There aren’t any songs I particularly dislike, or would ‘skip’ if they came up on shuffle, which is pretty convenient!

I’d probably rate his album 8/10. You can listen to his new album now, on Apple Music.

My first album review… done. Let me know what you think!
