Hello everybody, welcome to Blogmas day 16! So, it’s Christmas time there’s all of this tasty chocolatey food about which is why it’s probably natural for most of us to put on weight over Christmas, or maybe it’s the dark cold nights that are stopping you from getting the all important exercise. Have no fear (no It’s not superman) I’ve put together a little list of things that you can do to stay fit at Christmas!

  • Take the stairs

So this month is probably spent shopping 90% of the time, because it’s Christmas and there’s a lot to buy! Whilst shopping itself is basically a sport, and should be in the olympics, it’s not enough to keep on top of those fitness levels. So take the stairs! It will save you queuing for an elevator/escalator. It’s cardio, so it will get the blood moving around your body and you’re increasing the incline which will give your body a little bit more of a workout. Perfect.

  • Go for a walk

If you have a dog, or children, then this is more reason for getting out and about! Take a nice walk through the park, or take them to feed the ducks. You can even take them for a walk through the local neighbourhood just to look at Christmas lights. The fresh air will be good for you, and it’s increasing your daily activity. Walking is a great stress-relief too, so if the hustle and bustle of Christmas is getting a bit much for you then take a long walk around your neighbourhood.

  • Say no, at least once.

Quite often, people get carried away with over-indulging at Christmas (I’ve done it myself, plenty of times). But the key to not over-eating, is realising when you are full and saying ‘no’ if someone offers you a big slice of cake. It’s going to be there for you in an hour, so theres no rush to eat it.

  • Try out some new recipes!

Spend a day in the kitchen cooking up a storm! Whether you try out healthy alternatives to your favourite recipe, or try a completely new style of food. Variety is key, you could try out some vegan recipes, or gluten free recipes. Cooking is a lot of fun, especially when you do it with someone else!

  • Have a home workout

You don’t need a gym to stay fit! If you don’t fancy leaving the house then there are a bunch of exercises you can do at home. Or if you’re in work constantly, there are a bunch of exercises you can do at you desk. Before you go to bed you could do calf-raises on the stairs, a few lunges up and down the corridor, some squats and finish it off with some sit-ups in bed. All you need is some motivation!

So thats how you can keep fit and active during Christmas! As long as you’ve got motivation and will-power, anything is possible.

How do you guys keep fit in the cold months?

Thanks for reading,
